About Kaleidoscope Church

Kaleidoscope is a ministry based at 85 Main Road, Claremont (Above Tin-Roof and Adult World). Kaleidoscope was started under the leadership of Glenn and Michelle Robertson, formerly of His People Christian Church Cape Town . We joined His People in 1989 and became full-time staff in 1993. After 17 years of fruitful involvement, we left His People with blessing from Gareth Stead and the pastoral team on Sunday 13 February 2005. Even though Kaleidoscope is not a His People church plant, Gareth and Glenn have covenanted to walk together to establish God's Kingdom in the city by walking forward in unity.

Kaleidoscope is a community where the environment is warm and friendly. It is a place where real friendships can be built and hopefully sustained. Every Friday we host Music, Arts and Culture evenings where people who have a love for the creative in all its forms can mingle with ease. It's a space to enjoy music (etc), where young and old alike can meet. Most importantly we want it to be a space where those who truly love this City of Cape Town can come to celebrate all of her beauty of diversity. We also meet every Sunday morning at 9.30am to celebrate at the table of communion (common union) with others who have chosen to follow Christ and for those who desire to. Our Sunday services reflect our mission to influence a generation through learning, living, loving and laughing under the Lordship of Christ. The worship and the teaching is relevant and life-giving. We believe that God's Word was designed to be lived to the fullest, that people were created to love and be loved and that laughter heals the soul. We believe with all of our hearts that lives function best when surrendered to the Sovereignty of Christ.

Our Vision

Glenn RobertsonGlenn RobertsonGlenn Robertson

We envisage people of all nations, tribes and tongues coming to know Jesus Christ in all of His fullness. We desire that our lives would continually reflect being lived in and through Him. We believe that all of humankind is created in the image of God and therefore, that each individual contributes to the life of any given community. We, therefore see each individual at Kaleidoscope reflecting the multifaceted, colourful nature of God.

We believe that all of humankind is created in the image of God and therefore, that each individual contributes to the life of any given community. We, therefore see each individual at Kaleidoscope reflecting the multifaceted, colourful nature of God.

We want Kaleidoscope to be a place where the hurting, confused and disillusioned can find love, acceptance, hope, forgiveness and guidance. We aim to grow in helping toward the upliftment of the destitute in our city as our emphasis is to act locally first, even though we think globally. We see each part of this community being rightly fitted together and begin to function in ways that will revolutionize every area we are found involved in.

We see ourselves as ordinary people who believe in the power of an extra-ordinary God who still performs miracles, big and small!

We see Kaleidoscope as a vibrant community, administered simply and financed by the contributions of its members. Our leadership team will walk together in accountability and integrity toward each other. We aspire to be a community that will continue to strive toward the well-being of our city and our nation.

What we believe

God- We believe in the sovereignty of the one God, eternally existing in the triune Godhead: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The Scriptures - We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments in their original writing are inspired by God and accept them as the final authority for faith and life. We believe that in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, God has revealed Himself and given us an authoritative disclosure of His character and will.

Mankind - We believe that mankind was created in the image and likeness of God, but through Adam's sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature and became alienated from God; and that man lives in total depravity and is utterly incapable of redeeming himself.

Jesus Christ - We believe that Jesus Christ, the everlasting Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal the Father and redeem mankind. We believe that Jesus accomplished our redemption through His vicarious, substitutionary and sacrificial death on the cross as a representative; and that our peace with God is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead. We believe that Jesus Christ ascended into Heaven, was seated on the right hand of Majesty where He continues serving humanity as our High Priest, Intercessor, and Advocate with the Father.

The Gospel of the Kingdom - We believe the "Gospel" is the good news of deliverance from the bondage of the present age and the age to come. We believe the Gospel includes the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ along with His ongoing ministry to restore all things. We believe that the proclamation of the Gospel must make provision for the present reign of Christ over all things, or it is inadequate.

Salvation - We believe that because of the substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus Christ, God freely forgives those who are brought to repentance and faith in His Son. We believe that all who are justified by the grace of God, through faith in Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.

The Holy Spirit - We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person who convicts the world of sin, righteousness and of judgment and that He is the supernatural agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ. We believe in (a) the baptism of the Holy Spirit, by which believers are empowered and equipped for service (b) the gifts of and fellowship with the Holy Spirit.

The Church - We believe the one true and universal Church consists of those who have been redeemed by Jesus Christ and regenerated by the Holy Spirit; that the local church should be the expression of the one true and universal Church and therefore the new birth and personal confession of faith in Christ are essentials of Church membership. We believe in the God-appointed ministries of the Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher, which have been given for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry. We believe in the ultimate triumph of the Church through the power of the Holy Spirit under the government of King Jesus.

The Sacraments - We believe the Lord Jesus Christ appointed the two sacraments of baptism in water and the Lord's Supper (communion) to be observed as an act of obedience and as perpetual witnesses to the Christian faith. We believe that baptism is by immersion in water, as the sign of spiritual circumcision and identification with Christ in His death burial and resurrection. We believe the Lord's Supper is the partaking of the sacrament which symbolizes the broken body and shed blood of Christ, in remembrance of His sacrificial death.

The Second Advent of Christ - We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ in power and glory to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the resurrection, both of the just and the unjust, the eternal blessedness of the redeemed, and the eternal damnation of those who have rejected God's offer of salvation in Jesus Christ.
